Hardik Pandya, the current captain of the Gujarat Titans, is expected to take over as captain of the ODI and T20I teams soon. Hardik will take over the captaincy from Rohit Sharma, whose fitness has been a source of concern in the last year, according to Times Now. Rohit has missed numerous matches due to fitness issues, and he is also missing the ongoing Test series against Bangladesh. He is also declared unfit for the 2nd test against Bangladesh in Dhaka
Hardik plays only white-ball cricket and has been a consistent since his return to international cricket in June. Hardik proved his captaincy credentials earlier this year by leading Gujarat Titans to an IPL title win, and he is leading the race for T20I captaincy.
Following the 2021 T20 World Cup, Rohit took over as T20I captain, beginning with the home series against New Zealand. He then further became a captain in the ODI format for the Indian Cricket team. Rohit Sharma has missed many bilateral series as captain due to his frequent injuries. He was unable to lead the Men in Blue in his first ODI series as a full-time captain. He also did not play in the Test series.
Pandya has never captained in Ranji trophy cricket. But he has led Team India to four victories in T20 Internationals. The next match for India in limited overs cricket will be against Sri Lanka on January 3, and the squads for the series will be announced by the end of next week.
