Mumbai Indians, the top drawer franchise in the domestic T20 league, who has won 5 IPL trophies is on the downfall as the team hasn’t been able to win a single match in the IPL 2022 out of their 6 matches so far. But, this franchise has produced some breath-taking and unforgettable moments for its fans in IPL history.

The team is known for its near to impossible comebacks that defy the aura of this team. The team holds 5 IPL trophies in its name. What better proof do you want to see? One more fact, Mumbai Indians have never lost an IPL final. That’s the captaincy standard of Rohit Sharma, who believes in his fellow teammates and makes them believe in their abilities.

If you are a Mumbai Indians fan, you would surely have uncountable memories that made you jump out of your bed and scream in joy. Let’s recall some of those unforgettable moments of Mumbai Indians from their IPL journey.

    Unforgettable Moments of Mumbai Indians

    1) Mumbai Indians Chase 189 in 14.4 Overs Against Rajasthan Royals

Unbelievable- that was the reaction of every cricket enthusiast when Mumbai Indians chased down the mammoth 189 runs total in merely 14.4 overs to qualify for the play-offs in IPL 2014.

Mumbai Indians entered the match with a win-win scenario and additional requirements to have a superior net run rate than other teams if they had to qualify for IPL 2014 playoffs. Mumbai Indians needed to chase the total within 14.3 overs which seemed quite a backbreaking task, however, Wankhede witnessed a Corey Anderson storm that day who smashed Rajasthan Royals bowler all over the park for an unbeaten 95runs off 44 balls.

Corey was well supported by Ambati Rayudu who smashed 30 runs off 10 deliveries. Mumbai Indians required 8 runs off 2 deliveries to qualify. Rayudu smashed a six to lower the equation to 2 runs off 1 ball. Unfortunately, Rayudu got run out on the next ball while taking a double and Rajasthan celebrated their qualification.

A twist entered in the scenario if MI scores a boundary off the next delivery then they will qualify. Aditya Tare smashed James Faulkner’s delivery for a six which erupted a wave of emotions in Wankhede as Rahul Dravid threw his cap in anger and MI celebrated their historic win.

    2) MI vs CSK 2013 IPL Final

The first is indeed special. So does Mumbai Indians first IPL trophy in 2013 when Rohit Sharma took over the reign of captaincy from Ricky Ponting. Mumbai Indians were facing the two times IPL winner Chennai Super Kings led by MS Dhoni in the IPL finals.

Mumbai Indians managed to pull off a respectable total of 148 runs against CSK with the heroic of Kieron Pollard 69 not out. Unfortunately, CSK batters couldn’t do so and the effort from MS Dhoni the finisher, who scored 63, wasn’t enough on that day as Mumbai Indians lifted their maiden IPL title by defeating CSK by 23 runs.

    3) Mumbai Indians vs Punjab Kings in IPL 2019

This is Mumbai Indians one of the highest chases in their IPL history. Everyone who saw or remembers this match knows how the team came back from the hands of defeat to pull off this magical win, courtesy of Kieron Pollard.

In this unforgettable moments for Mumbai Indians, they were chasing a 198 target, and stand-in captain Kieron Pollard made sure to clinch the victory. Mumbai Indians kept losing wickets at regular intervals which boiled down the chase equation to 133 runs in 10 overs.

Everyone wrote off Mumbai in this match but Pollard storm who made 83 off 31 balls pulled the unbelievable to scrip a history and give fans a memory to hold on to forever.

    4) MI vs Rising Pune Super Giants Final in IPL 2017

Low-scoring thrillers are indeed special. A low-scoring enthralling IPL final between Mumbai Indians & Rising Pune SuperGiants was a cherry on top.

Batting first in the IPL final, Mumbai Indians barely managed to reach a respectable total of 129 with the assistance of Krunal Pandya’s knock. Defending such a low total against a side that had Steve Smith & MS Dhoni wasn’t a simplified task. Yet, MI who doesn’t stop believing pulled off the miracle.

With 4 runs needed off the final delivery of Mitchell Johnson and Dan Christian on strike, the task wasn’t easy. But MI kept hold of their nerves better and won the match by 1 run which is the smallest margin win in an IPL final till date.

    5) Mumbai Indians Defending their Title in IPL 2020

If only teams have done it, then it definitely distinguishes your team from others. Yes, only Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians are the franchise to defend their title in IPL. Chennai won back-to-back titles in 2010 & 2011. Mumbai equaled this record by lifting the IPL trophy back to back in 2019 & 2020.

Mumbai Indians were facing Delhi Capitals in the IPL final which was the 4th clash between the two sides in IPL 2020. Interestingly, Mumbai had won all the three encounters previously including one in the play-offs. Mumbai was high on charge and chased down the total set by Delhi Capitals comfortably by 5 wickets & 8 balls left. Rohit Sharma top-scored for Mumbai with 68 runs.

    6) First ever Double Super in IPL History

After the dramatic 2019 World Cup final controversy, ICC made amendments to the boundary rule and was replaced with Super Over until the result comes out. Everyone thought, “What’s the use of this? As the same instance would not happen anytime soon.”

Who knew IPL in Dubai would produce the first-ever double super over in IPL history. The match between Mumbai Indians vs Punjab Kings in 2020 had 2 super overs before the final result could come out.

Punjab Kings managed to tie the score with Mumbai’s score and the winner had to be decided through a super over. Batting first in the super over, Punjab Kings managed to score 5 runs and everyone thought – now it’s Mumbai’s match but courtesy to Mohammad Shami who conceded exactly 5 runs to take his team into another super over.

The second super over had a rule that no player who was part of the first super over can participate in the second one. Kieron Pollard & Hardik Pandya scored 11 runs for the team, however, Punjab Kings chased down the total to win the match.

Though Mumbai lost the match, still this prominent moment is etched in everyone’s heart and mind.
