New Zealand registered one of the narrowest wins in Test cricket history by winning the 2nd Test against England by just one run. It was also the fourth time in Test cricket that a team has won a Test match after being asked to follow-on. Kane Williamson was named the player of the match for his resilient century knock in the 3rd innings of the Test match.

England batted first in the match and posted a huge total of 435/8 in the first inning with the help of Harry Brook and Joe Root’s individual centuries. In reply, New Zealand could only score 209 runs and was asked to follow-on. The second time around, New Zealand batted exceptionally well and piled on 483 runs in which Kane Williamson scored a century.

England were left with 258 runs to chase to win the match. However, they could only score 256 runs and lost the match by 1 run. Neil Wagner dismissed James Anderson to finally the win the match for Kiwis.
