8 IPL records that are difficult to break

Indian Premier League (IPL) has produced countless unimaginable moments throughout 15 glorious editions. From Chris Gayle’s epic 175 to Virat Kohli’s 973 runs in a single edition, many unthinkable records have been established in IPL history. Here we have chosen the 8 IPL records that are almost impossible to break.

    1- RCB’s 263/5 in 20 overs

Royal Challengers Bangalore posted a mammoth total of 263 against Pune Warriors India when Chris Gayle brought his version of a storm to the stadium. It is still the highest-ever total in IPL history and would require a monumental effort for a team to get even close to it. The colossal total by RCB included 21 massive sixes.

    2- Chris Gayle’s 175 off 66

A record-breaking inning that has never been surpassed in T20 format. Chris Gayle, the West Indian left-hander, dismantled the Pune Warriors India in 2013 when he scored a blitzing 175 off just 66 deliveries. His inning included 13 fours and 17 towering sixes. It will take many years for someone to break this colossal record.

    3- RCB all-out for 49 runs

Royal Challengers Bangalore suffered huge humiliation against Kolkata Knight Riders while chasing a below-par target of 131 runs. The Royals folded out on 49 runs to register the lowest-ever total in IPL history. It is one of those records that no team will be willing to break anytime soon.

    4- Virat Kohli’s 973 runs in 2016

Virat Kohli was going through a golden patch in his career when he produced an astonishing edition with astronomical numbers to his name. He scored 4 centuries in 2016’s IPL to register the highest-ever runs accumulated by a batter in a single edition of IPL.

5- Three hat-tricks by Amit Mishra

Amit Sharma, the legendary spinner, has produced three hat-tricks in his illustrious IPL career. He took these hat tricks in 2008, 2011 and 2013. Yuvraj Singh has also taken two hat-tricks, but since he has already retired from cricket, Mishra’s record of three hat-tricks in IPL seems out of reach of any bowler.

6- Best bowling figures of 6-12 by Alzarri Joseph

The West-Indian bowler was representing Mumbai Indians when he surpassed Sohail Tanvir’s record to register the best-ever figures in IPL history by a bowler. He bowled 3.4 overs and took 6 wickets by giving away a measly 12 runs. He made this record against Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2019.

    7- MS Dhoni’s 9 final appearances

MS Dhoni has appeared the most times in IPL finals. He has achieved this feat 8 times with Chennai Super Kings and once with now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiants. It is almost impossible to imagine any other cricketer making that much appearance at the final stage of the Indian Premier League.

8- 37 runs in an over

Chris Gayle and Ravindra Jadeja are the only two batters to accumulate a mind-boggling 37 runs from an over in IPL. Some no-balls and wides helped them in establishing this remarkable record. However, both were equally fabulous with their hitting to reach the epic milestone.
