In a heartfelt Instagram post, Naveen expressed his gratitude for the privilege of representing his country. He wrote, “It has been an absolute honor to represent my country and I would like to announce my retirement from the ODI format at the end of this World Cup. I will continue to wear this blue jersey in T20 cricket for my country. It hasn’t been an easy decision to make, but in order to prolong my playing career, I had to make this tough choice. I would like to thank @afghanistancricketboard and all my fans for their support and unwavering love.”

Naveen’s decision to retire at the young age of 24 has taken many cricket enthusiasts by surprise, considering his potential and youth in the sport. He has been named in Afghanistan’s squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup, scheduled to commence on October 5. Interestingly, he was not part of the Afghanistan team during the Asia Cup 2023.
