Dawid Johannes Malan, born on September 3, 1987, is an English cricketer who represents England in all formats of the game. In domestic cricket, he currently plays for Yorkshire, having previously been associated with Middlesex. Additionally, Malan has showcased his talents in various Twenty20 leagues, including his stint with the Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League.
Malan made his debut in Test and Twenty20 International (T20I) matches in 2017, and his One Day International (ODI) debut in 2019. In the year 2020, his rating in the ICC Men’s Player Rankings reached an impressive 915, setting a record high in the format that still stands today. Notably, he was a vital part of the England squad that secured victory in the 2022 T20 World Cup.
As a cricketer, Malan is a left-handed top-order batsman and occasionally contributes with legbreak bowling. He holds the distinction of being one of just four Englishmen to achieve a century in T20I cricket.

Dawid Malan was born in Roehampton, London. When he was seven years old, his family relocated to South Africa, where he attended Paarl Boys’ High School. After making his first-class debut for Boland, he went on to join Middlesex, where he remained for more than a decade. It’s worth noting that he is a dedicated supporter of Liverpool F.C.
His father, Dawid Malan Sr., had a cricketing background, representing Western Province B, Northern Transvaal B, and Teddington. He was a right-handed batsman and a right-arm fast-medium bowler.
Dawid’s brother, Charl Malan, also had a stint in first-class cricket, playing for Loughborough MCCU. Charl Christiaan Malan, born on February 23, 1989, is a former English cricketer known for his right-handed batting style and right-arm off-break bowling. Although he was born in Wandsworth, London, he received his education at Paarl Boys’ High School in South Africa.
During his pursuit of a degree at Loughborough University in England, Malan made his debut in first-class cricket. He played his first match for Loughborough UCCE against Leicestershire in 2010. Subsequently, he made two more appearances for the team in 2010, facing Kent and Hampshire. In the following season, he featured in a match for the team, which had undergone a name change to Loughborough MCCU, against Yorkshire.
Furthermore, his sister, Liné, achieved international recognition as a field hockey player for South Africa.
Dawid Malan entered wedlock with Claire Mottram on October 17, 2019. Their family grew with the arrival of their first child, a baby girl, born on January 15, 2022. They welcomed their second child, a baby boy named Dawid Johannes Malan V (junior), on September 9, 2023.
