Mohammad Nabi Eisakhil, born on 1 January 1985, is a prominent Afghan cricketer who previously served as the captain of the Afghanistan national cricket team. Nabi is recognized for his aggressive style of play, functioning as a right-handed batsman and an off-break bowler. He played a pivotal role in Afghanistan’s ascent to the highest echelons of international cricket, being part of their inaugural One Day International (ODI) match in April 2009 and their first Test match in June 2018.
Nabi was a key member of Afghanistan’s first-ever T20 International (T20I) team, debuting against Ireland on 1 February 2010, and he was the fifth player to represent Afghanistan in T20 Internationals. He also featured in Afghanistan’s maiden T20 World Cup team, which competed against India during the 2010 ICC World Twenty20. Nabi had the honor of captaining the team in their maiden appearances in the 2014 Asia Cup and the 2015 Cricket World Cup. Furthermore, he showcased his talent in numerous Twenty20 franchise tournaments and made history as the first Afghan player to be chosen in the Indian Premier League (IPL) player auction.
In September 2019, Nabi decided to retire from Test cricket to extend his career in limited-overs formats. Notably, in August 2020, he was granted membership in the Afghanistan Cricket Board, reflecting his enduring contribution to Afghan cricket.
Mohammad Nabi Eisakhil was born in Logar Province, Afghanistan, but his family relocated to Peshawar, Pakistan, to escape the Soviet-Afghan War. At the age of 10, he initiated his cricket journey in Peshawar. In 2000, Nabi’s family returned to Afghanistan, where he joined forces with future Afghan cricket stars like Mohammad Shahzad, Asghar Afghan, and Shapoor Zadran.
