Dhananjaya Maduranga de Silva, commonly known as Dhananjaya de Silva, was born on September 6, 1991. He is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer who represents Sri Lanka in all formats of the game. In domestic cricket, he plays for Tamil Union. Additionally, he holds the position of vice-captain for the Sri Lankan national team in both ODIs and Test matches. Notably, in November 2017, he was honored as the Test batsman of the year for the 2016–17 season at Sri Lanka Cricket’s annual awards.
Dhananjaya de Silva was born in Hambantota on September 6, 1991, and he is the second son in a family of three brothers. His cricket journey began at Deberawewa National School in Tissamaharama, Hambanthota. He later moved to Galle, where he briefly attended Mahanama College in Colombo before transferring to Richmond College in Galle. He played senior school cricket at Richmond College and even captained the Richmond first XI cricket team during the 2010/2011 season.
Tragically, Dhananjaya de Silva’s father, Ranjan de Silva, was a victim of a fatal shooting on May 25, 2018, in front of their Ratmalana residence. This devastating event led to Dhananjaya’s temporary withdrawal from the Sri Lankan squad for the West Indies tour. However, he later resumed his participation in the tour from the second match onward.
