    Shoaib Bashir Domestic Career

    Before joining Somerset in 2022, Shoaib Bashir had a diverse cricketing journey. He played club cricket for Guildford, represented Surrey and Middlesex in age-group cricket, and competed in Minor Counties cricket for Berkshire. During the winter of 2022-2023, he honed his skills by playing club cricket in Australia.

    In October 2022, Somerset offered Bashir a contract for the 2023 season after his impressive performances in Second-XI fixtures, where he claimed nine wickets at an average of just 14.11, including a notable 5 for 44 against Warwickshire Second XI.

    Ahead of the start of the County Championship in April 2023, Bashir played warm-up games in red ball cricket and continued to feature in Second-XI matches for Somerset. His T20 Blast debut for Somerset came on June 7, 2023, against Hampshire, where he made an immediate impact by taking three wickets for 26 runs against Gloucestershire.

    On June 10, 2023, Somerset announced a two-year contract extension for Bashir, securing his services until the end of the 2025 season. He subsequently made his first-class debut for Somerset against Essex on June 11, 2023.

    Bashir’s contributions were pivotal as Somerset clinched victory in the T20 Blast at Edgbaston Cricket Ground on July 15, 2023. Following his stellar performances, he earned a call-up to the England Lions cricket team in October 2023. In his debut match for the England Lions, Bashir impressed with six wickets for 42 runs against Afghanistan B.

    His exceptional performances led to a maiden call-up to the senior England side on December 11, 2023, for the test tour of India. Subsequently, on February 1, 2024, Bashir was included in the England team for his Test debut in the second Test match against India in Visakhapatnam.
