A mega auction will be organized this year before the 18th season of IPL. During this, the franchise will have to retain and release the players. Earlier, the franchises have demanded three changes. This includes the duration of the mega auction, the number of players’ retention and the issue of right to match.
Teams demanded changes in three rules
According to media reports, the franchises recently met the IPL officials. During this, the teams demanded changes in three rules of IPL. In this meeting held before the mega auction, the franchises demanded to extend the duration of the mega auction by five years. Apart from this, teams should be allowed to retain four to six players and each team should be given the option of at least eight Right to Match (RTM). However, no decision has been taken so far.
What will be the benefit of the duration of the mega auction?
The reason behind the demand to conduct the mega auction every five years is that it will give young players a chance to prepare. This will benefit the uncapped players and they will be able to improve their game. Let us tell you, at present the IPL mega auction takes place every three years.
Why do the franchises want changes in RTM?
In this meeting, the franchises demanded a change in the Right to Match (RTM) option from the IPL officials. The teams want it to be made eight before the mega auction. If this happens, then the teams will be comfortable in re-inducting their old players into the team by matching the highest bid.
