From Retention to Impact Rule… Here is Everything That Can Happen in the Meeting for IPL 2025

An important meeting is going to be held in Mumbai on Wednesday for the Indian Premier League 2025. In this meeting, it will be decided for the upcoming season that how many players will be retained by the franchise in retention and how much money will be in the purse. The impact rule is also likely to be discussed in this meeting.

The Governing Council of the Indian Premier League held a meeting in Mumbai on Wednesday. In this meeting with the franchise owners, there can be a consensus on increasing the team’s purse (the amount spent on players) to INR 120 crore and retaining six players in the team including ‘Right to Match’ (RTM) options. There will be a big auction of players for IPL at the end of this year. Before this, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will discuss with the team owners to organize the modalities of this league.

BCCI will take into account the views of the franchise owners before deciding the rules on team formation. The report said that many franchises were talked to and almost everyone agreed on one aspect that the current team’s purse of INR 100 crore needs to be increased by at least 20 to 25 percent. An IPL franchise said on the condition of anonymity, ‘I think this (increase in purse) is definitely happening. There should be an increase of 25 percent. In such a situation, most franchises will agree to a purse of INR 120 crore to INR 125 crore for the franchise.’

RTM will be the main issue of the meeting

The biggest issue in this meeting is to retain the players, where it may be difficult to reach a consensus as most teams have different requirements. A big franchise has suggested retaining eight players in the team including RTM. It is unlikely that most teams will not agree to this. The auction to be held in the three-year cycle of IPL allows the retention of four players including one foreigner. It is believed that most teams want retention between five to six.

Impact player rule will also be discussed

Impact player rule will also be discussed in this meeting. Indian captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have openly criticized it, but franchises like Chennai Super Kings get a chance to keep the charismatic former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the team. Dhoni batted at number eight in many matches in the last IPL.
