The IPL 2025 season is about to begin, and only four days are left for its start. Every season, new records are made, and some players establish their names in this league. Meanwhile, some experienced players are close to achieving major milestones. Two such legendary Indian batsmen, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, have a chance to accomplish a special achievement in this IPL season.
Kohli Focused on Preparations
The upcoming IPL season will begin on March 22, with the first match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders. Before the opening match, Virat Kohli was seen practicing at Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, working on his batting. He trained in the nets with a throwdown specialist. Kohli played a key role in India’s Champions Trophy victory and will aim to maintain his form in the IPL. After taking a short break following the Champions Trophy, he joined RCB’s camp a bit late.
Rohit to Join the Team Soon
Rohit Sharma has returned to India after vacationing in the Maldives and will soon join his franchise, Mumbai Indians. Mumbai Indians will begin their campaign on March 23 against Chennai Super Kings. Under Rohit’s captaincy, Mumbai Indians have won five IPL titles, but now Hardik Pandya has taken over the leadership.

Ro-Ko in the Race for Most Player of the Match Awards
During IPL 2025, Rohit and Kohli have a chance to set a record for winning the most Player of the Match awards in tournament history. Currently, this record is held by AB de Villiers, who won the award 25 times in his IPL career. Chris Gayle is in second place with 22 awards. Rohit and Kohli are in third and fourth place, with Rohit winning 19 times and Kohli 18 times. Since both de Villiers and Gayle are no longer playing in the IPL, Rohit and Kohli have a great opportunity to reach the top of this list.
Each team will play 14 league matches. If Rohit wins the award in seven matches, he will surpass de Villiers. Similarly, Kohli needs to win the award in eight matches to claim the top spot. Although the statistical gap seems small, achieving this in a single IPL season is not an easy task for any batsman.
Kohli Holds the Record for Most Fours in IPL
Kohli is in great form, and RCB fans will hope that he continues this streak in IPL 2025. He holds the record for hitting the most fours in IPL history, with 705 fours. He is the only batsman to have crossed the 700-fours milestone in IPL. David Warner is in second place with 663 fours, while Rohit Sharma is third with 599 fours. With just one more four, Rohit will become the third batsman to reach 600 IPL fours.
