Suryakumar Makes a Strong Entry in IPL 2025 Orange Cap Race; Who is Owning the Purple Cap?

There have been consistent changes in the Orange Cap race in IPL 2025. Even after the double header on Sunday (April 20), there was a shift in the Top-5 list. Mumbai Indians (MI) batter Suryakumar Yadav made a strong entry into the Orange Cap race with a fiery performance against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). He has now moved to the fourth spot on the list of highest run-scorers in the current season, with 321 runs from 8 matches. Suryakumar scored an unbeaten 68 runs off 30 balls, hitting 6 fours and 5 sixes against CSK. MI defeated Chennai by 9 wickets at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium in the 38th match of the season.

Suryakumar narrowly missed surpassing Virat Kohli in the race by just 2 runs. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) star batter Kohli occupies the third spot on the list, with 322 runs from 8 matches. He played a splendid half-century against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Sunday, scoring an unbeaten 73 runs off 54 balls with 7 fours and 1 six. Kohli was named Player of the Match as RCB defeated Punjab by 7 wickets. Currently, the Orange Cap belongs to Nicholas Pooran of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), who has scored 368 runs in 8 matches. Gujarat Titans’ (GT) Sai Sudharsan is in second place with 365 runs from 7 matches.

On the other hand, the Purple Cap race in IPL 2025 remains unchanged. The top 5 bowlers in the current season’s wicket tally have not seen any changes. Gujarat Titans fast bowler Prasidh Krishna currently holds the Purple Cap with 14 wickets from 7 matches. Prasidh took over the Purple Cap from Noor Ahmad, who is now in third place with 12 wickets from 8 matches. The Afghanistan spinner was unable to take a wicket in MI’s match. Delhi Capitals (DC) spinner Kuldeep Yadav is in second place with 12 wickets from 7 matches. RCB pacer Josh Hazlewood and LSG’s bowler Shardul Thakur also have 12 wickets each, having played 8 matches.
