Due to a military conflict between India and Pakistan, the IPL was suspended for a week on Friday, leading to growing speculation about what options the BCCI might have if the remaining matches of IPL 2025 cannot be hosted in India. Former cricketer Michael Vaughan had offered to host IPL matches in England, after which media reports suggest that the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has initiated talks with the BCCI regarding the tournament’s hosting.

According to English magazine The Cricketer, the ECB contacted the BCCI on Friday evening. However, no official statement has been made by the BCCI regarding this. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia issued a statement on Friday announcing the suspension of IPL 2025 for a week with immediate effect. The decision was made after consultations between senior BCCI officials, the IPL Governing Council, and all key stakeholders. IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal was also part of the meeting.

Following an airstrike alert in Jammu and Pathankot, Thursday’s match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamshala was cancelled midway, raising concerns about the future of the ongoing IPL season. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia stated in a release, “The BCCI has decided to suspend the remaining IPL matches for a week with immediate effect.” Earlier, reports had suggested an indefinite suspension of the tournament.

The statement further mentioned, “Details about the revised schedule and venue will be shared in due time. A thorough review of the situation with concerned authorities and stakeholders will be conducted beforehand.” The league was originally scheduled to conclude on May 25 in Kolkata. The board is aiming to complete the remaining 16 matches (12 league games and 4 knockout games) on time. There is also speculation that if the Asia Cup, scheduled for September, is cancelled, it could create a window to reschedule these matches.
