South African cricket legend AB de Villiers recently shared insights into the three most challenging bowlers he encountered during his illustrious career. In an interview with Robin Uthappa on JioCinema, de Villiers named Shane Warne, Jasprit Bumrah, and Rashid Khan as the toughest opponents he faced on the cricket field.
De Villiers recounted his first encounter with Shane Warne in 2006, highlighting the spinner’s exceptional skill, technique, and intimidating presence. Despite scoring sixty runs in that match, de Villiers acknowledged Warne’s ability to exploit his weaknesses. Warne’s strategic approach and understanding of de Villiers’ batting style resulted in his dismissal on multiple occasions.
Moving on to other formidable opponents, de Villiers mentioned Jasprit Bumrah and Rashid Khan. He commended Bumrah’s competitive nature and refusal to back down, making him a relentless adversary. Although de Villiers found some success against Bumrah, he recognized the intensity and competitiveness the Indian pacer brought to their encounters.

Surprisingly, de Villiers also named Rashid Khan as one of the toughest bowlers he faced, despite hitting him for several sixes in their matches. De Villiers highlighted Rashid’s fearlessness and determination to continue attacking, even after being hit for boundaries. He appreciated Rashid’s resilience and unwavering commitment to taking wickets.
