Mohammed Siraj was born in Hyderabad, Telangana, on March 13, 1994. His father, Mohammed Gaus, worked as an auto rickshaw driver, while his mother, Shabana Begum, dedicated herself to being a homemaker. He has an elder brother, Mohammed Ismail, who pursued a career in engineering. Siraj grew up in a deeply religious Muslim family.

In October 2017, he earned a spot in India’s Twenty20 International (T20I) squad for the series against New Zealand. Making his T20I debut on 4 November 2017 against New Zealand, he claimed the wicket of Kane Williamson and concluded with figures of 1 wicket for 53 runs from four overs.
February 2018 saw his inclusion in India’s T20I squad for the 2018 Nidahas Trophy. In September 2018, he was named in India’s Test squad for the series against the West Indies, although he did not play. December 2018 marked his entry into India’s One Day International (ODI) squad for the series against Australia. His ODI debut occurred at the Adelaide Oval on 15 January 2019.
On 26 October 2020, Siraj was selected for India’s Test squad against Australia. Making his Test debut on 26 December 2020, he secured his first Test wicket by dismissing Marnus Labuschagne.
