Former cricketer Gautam Gambhir has recently been appointed as the head coach of the Indian team. He has replaced Rahul Dravid. Gambhir will be associated with the Indian team as a coach for about three years. During his tenure, a lot of things are expected to change in Indian cricket. Gambhir has not had good relations with some players of the Indian team, in which Virat Kohli’s name is at the forefront.
The latest example of this was seen during a match of IPL 2023 last year, when a very heated argument was seen between these two giants. Former India cricketer Amit Mishra has made many new revelations about the controversy. He has told in a podcast that Virat Kohli, unhappy with a gesture of Gambhir, abused the players of his team. Amit Mishra has also told why fans love players like Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni so much even after retirement.
Speaking to Shubhankar Mishra on his YouTube show Unplugged, Amit revealed that then LSG mentor Gautam Gambhir had gestured to the crowd to keep quiet (finger on mouth) after winning the match against Bengaluru, saying that Gambhir did this to silence the home crowd, who had become more emotional after the result of the match. Amit believes that Kohli did not like this and he abused the Lucknow players when the two teams faced each other in the next match.
Amit Mishra said, “It all started in Bengaluru, when we (Lucknow Super Giants) won the match. The spectators were making a lot of noise and because of this Gambhir signaled them to keep quiet. Maybe Kohli did not like this. We thought maybe this matter ended with the match but maybe it was not so for Kohli. He abused our players. He had no enmity with Kyle Myers, but he abused him too. Naveen Ul Haq was bowling, he was also abused. Many things could have been ignored but Kohli did not.”

He further said, “When I was batting with Naveen, I asked Kohli, ‘Who are you talking to, he is young and not even close to your stature. Whatever is done is done. He replied, “You explain this to him, not me.”
Former cricketer Amit Mishra further said, “The real problem started after the match. He (Kohli) started abusing him again (during the handshake). During this, Gambhir intervened, asking why are you starting again, when the game is over and you guys have won. I pushed Gambhir away but Naveen came to the dressing room later and said that Kohli started abusing again.”
Amit Mishra also told why players like Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni get so much respect. He said that they treat their juniors as equals with love and respect. He explained this by giving the example of Brett Lee. He said, “Why do people still respect Sachin Tendulkar or MS Dhoni? It is because they respect and love the junior players.
You can be aggressive, but this is not done. I don’t know if you remember or not, but during the series against Australia, Brett Lee threw a beamer, which hit him on the shoulder. Sachin was very angry but said – okay. After this Lee started respecting him, because according to what I heard, he had aimed to hit his wrist.”
