The third day of play began with England wrapping up Australia’s first innings for 386, taking a slender 7-run lead. Australia, starting the day at 311/5, saw Usman Khawaja and Alex Carey continue their partnership. However, James Anderson provided England with the breakthrough by dismissing Carey for 66. Pat Cummins and Khawaja then guided Australia close to England’s first innings total of 393/8 (declared), but Ollie Robinson ended Khawaja’s innings on 141.

Cummins was the last batsman to be dismissed, scoring 38 before being caught by Ben Stokes. Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett then commenced England’s second innings, reaching 27 without loss before rain interrupted play. After a lengthy delay, the match resumed under cloudy conditions and strong winds, favoring Australia’s bowlers. They swiftly removed both England openers, leaving the hosts in a precarious situation. England will resume on the fourth day at 28 for two, holding a lead of 35 runs, after a challenging period against the bowling duo of Pat Cummins and Scott Boland.

Ben Stokes-led England are coming of a win against Ireland in a one-off Test, while Pat Cummins-led Australia are also coming of a win against India in the ICC World Test Championship Final. Both teams will carry the confidence gained from their previous wins into their upcoming encounters.
