The passing of Australian spin maestro Shane Warne in March of the previous year had a profound impact on cricket enthusiasts worldwide. Warne, a former leg-spinner, suffered a heart attack at the age of 52 in his villa in Thailand, leaving behind a legacy of over 1,000 wickets across formats. His untimely demise left a void that was felt deeply by all who loved the game.

Recognized as one of cricket’s finest spinners, Shane Warne’s remarkable career included an impressive tally of 708 Test wickets, placing him second on the all-time list. Additionally, he claimed 293 wickets in the limited-overs format.

Nathan Lyon expressed his immense admiration for Warne and acknowledged the significant impact the legendary spinner had on his own career. Lyon noted the absence of Warne and expressed his desire to make him proud from above. In an interview with Sky Sports, Lyon remarked:

“He is sorely missed, not only by Australian cricket fans but by cricket enthusiasts worldwide. When you think of Warne and what he has done for me, he is the reason why I chose to bowl spin.

“It’s a great sadness that he is no longer with us today, but hopefully, we can do justice to his memory. I believe he is watching over us from above. He is the reason why I took up spin bowling, and I hope to represent spinners with distinction in his honor.”

Nathan Lyon has firmly established himself as one of the premier Test spinners in international cricket. With 491 wickets in 121 matches, he currently stands as Australia’s third-highest wicket-taker in Test cricket, trailing only Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath.

Once again, Lyon showcased his prowess during the Test, proving to be a formidable force. His exceptional performance saw him claim four English wickets, continually unsettling the opposition with his contributions.
