Australian cricketer Steve Smith expressed his sheer delight in reaching the milestone of playing 100 Test matches for his country. He described it as a dream come true, admitting that he never envisioned playing such a significant number of matches in the red-ball format.
Smith achieved this milestone during the ongoing Ashes series against England, in the third Test at Headingley in Leeds. Becoming the 15th Australian cricketer to achieve this feat, the right-handed batsman expressed his gratitude for the incredible journey he has had in international cricket.
In an interview with Sky Sports, Steve Smith conveyed his excitement and enjoyment throughout his career. “It’s a dream come true to play one, and never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d play 100. It’s been a great journey. I’ve loved every minute of it and am looking forward to this week,” Smith said.

Not only did Smith reach the milestone of 100 Test matches, but he also became the second-fastest player to score 9,000 runs in Test cricket during the ongoing series. With an impressive average of 59.56, including 32 centuries, he has amassed a total of 9,113 runs in his Test career.
Smith mentioned that his parents take immense pride in his achievement and shared that they would be watching the match, although his father was unable to attend due to illness. “Dad was supposed to be up here today, but he’s actually crook, so he’s struggled to make it. But there are certainly plenty of messages. I had a word with him yesterday, and they’re proud of what I’ve achieved. They’ll be watching,” he added.
