With the anticipation building up for the start of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, former cricketers are sharing their forecasts about potential finalists and leading run-scorers in the tournament. Joining the ranks, India’s seasoned batsman and former chief selector, MSK Prasad, has stepped forward to reveal his handpicked 15-player squad for the imminent event.
Prasad’s chosen lineup showcases a thoughtful mix of both seasoned expertise and youthful enthusiasm, highlighting his tactical method in forming a team that possesses the capability to excel on the international platform.
At 48 years old, Prasad has crafted a 15-member lineup for the World Cup 2023, featuring a trio of openers: Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Ishan Kishan. The middle order is anchored by Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, and a surprising inclusion, Suryakumar Yadav.

Suryakumar’s presence in the middle order is unexpected, given his struggles to make an impact in the 50-over format despite being a top-ranked T20I batter.
Prasad’s all-rounder category comprises Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel, while the pace department is entrusted to Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj.
A notable selection by Prasad is the inclusion of veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin in the spin department, even though Ashwin’s last ODI appearance was in January 2022. Ashwin will receive support from either Kuldeep Yadav or Yuzvendra Chahal in the formidable lineup envisioned by Prasad.
Interestingly, Chahal is absent from India’s 17-member squad for the Asia Cup. Instead, the continental event will see Kuldeep, Jadeja, and Axar taking on the spin responsibilities.
MSK Prasad’s envisioned 15 for World Cup 2023:
Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal/Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Ishan Kishan.
