The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has announced the schedule of Asia Cup 2023. This time around a total of 6 teams will participate in the Asia Cup and a total of 13 matches will be played between these teams. This year’s Asia Cup will be played on hybrid model, under which four matches of Asia Cup will be played in Pakistan while remaining 9 matches will be played in neutral venue Sri Lanka.
In spite of the Pakistani team’s plans to host the 2023 Asia Cup, BCCI President Jay Shah declined to allow the Indian team to visit Pakistan. In fact, the World Cup will be hosted by India this year. Rameez Raja, the former PCB Chairman, initially refused to allow Pakistan to compete in the World Cup, but after the meeting, the issue was resolved.
India and Pakistan are strong contenders to win the Asia Cup 2023. The responsibility of the Indian team is in the hands of Captain Rohit Sharma, who along with Shubman Gill will open the innings, while the middle order has talented batters like Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul. Followed by Ravindra Jadeja and Hardik Pandya who will be roped as finishers.
In the fast bowling department, bowlers like Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah have almost a fixed place in the playing 11.
