The eagerly awaited Asia Cup 2023 is on the horizon, poised to commence from August 30, much to the delight of cricket enthusiasts. In the inaugural match, Pakistan will engage in a face-off with Nepal in Multan. As part of their opening campaign, Team India will lock horns with their perennial rivals Pakistan on September 2 in Kandy. For star Indian batsmen Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, this continental event holds particular significance, as they strive to surpass the memorable record set by cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar.

Sachin Tendulkar, an iconic figure in Indian cricket, has amassed a remarkable total of 971 runs throughout his 22-year-long Asia Cup (ODI) journey, securing the third position on the list of top run-scorers. In contrast, India’s captain Rohit Sharma occupies the fifth spot with 745 runs, while Virat Kohli stands at the 12th position with 613 runs to his credit.

In the forthcoming tournament, Rohit Sharma will require 226 runs, while Virat Kohli will need 358 runs to surpass Sachin Tendulkar’s position on the list of Indian batters with the most runs in the Asia Cup (ODIs).

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, both exemplifying excellence in batting within their generation, are poised to showcase their prowess in the Asia Cup 2023, particularly as they gear up for the upcoming ODI World Cup.

Earlier, Rohit expressed that his identity wouldn’t be altered by victories or losses. “One’s character doesn’t transform overnight based on successes or failures. A single outcome or championship cannot reshape who I am as a person. Over the past 16 years, I haven’t undergone any change, and I believe there’s no need for that to change,” Rohit shared exclusively with PTI in a pre-Asia Cup interview before joining the Bengaluru training camp.

“My attention will be directed towards achieving my objectives over the next two months, both for myself and the team. Personal transformations don’t occur within one or two months,” he added.
