Asia Cup 2023: Shahid Afridi urges India to tour Pakistan for Asia Cup, says “we want to welcome them with open arms”

Former Pakistan captain stresses on the importance of cricket in improving relationships between the two countries, expresses disappointment over BCCI's unwillingness to travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup.

Former Pakistan captain, Shahid Afridi, has extended a heartfelt invitation to India to participate in the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 tournament in Pakistan. Afridi is confident that the Indian team will be received with open arms and given the best possible treatment in Pakistan.

Despite the historic tension between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Afridi believes that cricket can bring the two nations closer. In the past, India has toured Pakistan to play cricket, and Afridi hopes that the BCCI will reciprocate the same for Asia Cup 2023.

However, the hosting rights for the Asia Cup 2023 have created tension between the two boards. While the PCB is adamant about hosting the event in Pakistan, the BCCI has made it clear that they will not send their team to Pakistan.

Expressing his dissatisfaction over India’s unwillingness to travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup, Afridi mentioned that the BCCI president should have at least discussed the matter with the PCB chairman. He also expressed that the PCB has not made any negative statements against the BCCI and hopes that politics will be kept away from the sport.

Afridi has had a fantastic time during his visits to India, and he believes that the two countries can improve their relationship through cricket. The Asia Cup 2023 is scheduled to take place in September, and the situation is being closely monitored by cricket enthusiasts across the world.
