India appears to have gained an advantage in the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 Final against Sri Lanka on Sunday. Star Sri Lankan spinner Maheesh Theekshana suffered a right hamstring strain during their Super 4 match against Pakistan, raising doubts about his availability for the final.
The injury occurred while Maheesh Theekshana was fielding in the Sri Lanka-Pakistan game, and a scan to assess his condition is scheduled for tomorrow, according to a statement from the Sri Lanka Cricket Board.
During the match, Theekshana had an impressive start, conceding only 14 runs in his first five overs and taking a wicket. However, in the 28th over, while bowling his second spell, he seemed to injure his hamstring. Theekshana hobbled off the pitch during the 39th over and did not return, despite bowling three more overs.

It’s highly unlikely that Maheesh Theekshana will be available for the Asia Cup Final against India, which is a significant blow to Sri Lanka, already dealing with injury issues in their squad.
In Sri Lanka’s ODI lineup, Theekshana plays a crucial role, leading the team in wickets taken in 2023 with 31 scalps in 15 games at an average of 17.45. His fitness will be closely monitored, as Sri Lanka would want him in prime condition for the upcoming ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in 2023. Teams are required to submit their final tournament rosters by September 28, making his recovery a top priority for Sri Lanka.
