    Axar Patel, born on January 20, 1994, is an Indian cricketer who represents the Indian national team across all formats as a bowling all-rounder. He plies his trade for Gujarat in domestic cricket and represents the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League. Patel is known for his left-handed batting and slow left-arm orthodox bowling.

    Axar Patel will play a significant role in the absence of Ravindra Jadeja in the 2nd Test Match against England of the ongoing five match Test Series. The 2nd Test is going to be played at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium from 2 February 2024.

    Axar Patel Test Career

    In January 2021, Axar Patel earned a spot in India’s Test squad for their series against England. His Test debut against England on February 13, 2021, marked his return to international cricket after an absence of nearly three years. Patel’s inaugural Test wicket came against Joe Root.

    Notably, in the same match, he secured a five-wicket haul in England’s second innings, joining the ranks of the ninth Indian bowler to achieve this feat on debut. Throughout his debut series comprising three matches, Patel showcased exceptional bowling prowess, amassing 27 wickets at an impressive average of 10.59, finishing as the second-highest wicket-taker of the series. Later in the year, he also notched his maiden Test half-century against New Zealand.

    Axar Patel heavily impressed everyone with his batting in the 2023 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He was phenomenal with the bat and also contributed with the ball.

    Axar Patel Domestic Career

    In November 2013, Axar Patel made a notable mark in his second first-class match against Delhi by claiming 6 wickets for 55 runs in the first innings, marking his first five-wicket haul.

    Though Patel had a modest debut season for Gujarat, he showcased improvement in 2013. Predominantly recognized as a bowling all-rounder, he secured his first IPL contract with the Mumbai Indians ahead of the 2013 season, albeit he remained on the bench throughout the campaign as the team clinched the title.

    His contributions extended to the India Under-23s team’s triumph in the 2013 ACC Emerging Teams Cup, where he bagged seven wickets, including a crucial four-for in the semi-final against UAE. Patel’s consistent performances continued for Gujarat in the 2013/14 Ranji Trophy season, where he concluded with 369 runs at an average of 46.12 and 29 wickets at 23.58. In recognition of his achievements, he was honored as the BCCI Under-19 cricketer of the year for the 2012/13 season in early 2014.

    Subsequently, in August 2019, Patel was named in the India Red team’s squad for the 2019–20 Duleep Trophy, followed by his selection in India C’s squad for the 2019–20 Deodhar Trophy in October 2019.
