After winning the five match T20 series against Zimbabwe, now Team India will be eyeing on the Sri Lanka tour. After the retirement of Rohit and Virat from T20 international cricket, the place of the opening pair in the team is vacant. Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Saba Karim has demanded that Jaiswal and Gill should be given a chance to open on the Sri Lanka tour.
Sri Lanka tour will start from July 26
Team India has to play a three-match T20 and an equal number of ODI series against Sri Lanka. The T20 series will start from July 27. The Indian team can leave for this tour after the 20th. However, no official information has been given by the BCCI regarding this so far. The three-match T20 series will start from July 27. The second match will be played on 28th and the third on July 30. At the same time, the ODI series will start from August 2, whose second and third matches will be played on August 4 and 7 respectively.
Jaiswal and Gill should get a chance to open
Before the T20 series, the former wicketkeeper batter has demanded that Jaiswal and Gill should get a chance to open the batting. Actually, this pair gave India a good start on the Zimbabwe tour. The veteran wants Abhishek Sharma to also get a place in the team.
Karim said, “The most important places will be in the top order only. I think the selectors should go with these two (Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill). I think Abhishek Sharma should get a place in at least 15 because you have Rishabh Pant at No. 3 and Suryakumar Yadav at No. 4.”
Who will be the captain?
He further said, “It also depends on who is the captain in T20 Internationals. Gautam Gambhir is the head coach, so what is the thinking of the captain and the head coach and how they want to take the team forward. They have to select the players accordingly. Rituraj Gaikwad is also in the team. Many players are staking claim in the top order.”
Abhishek’s bat did not work at number three
After his successful IPL season, Abhishek was selected in the Indian team on the Zimbabwe tour. However, he was out for zero in the first match. However, he scored a brilliant century off 46 balls in his second match. The left-handed batter hit seven fours and eight sixes in his innings. However, after the return of Jaiswal in the third match, he was sent to number three. He could score only 10 and 14 runs in the next two innings. At the same time, Jaiswal scored 36 and 93*.
