Kariyawasam Indipalage Charith Asalanka, born on June 29, 1997, is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer who represents the national team in all three formats of the game. He also holds the position of vice-captain for the national team in T20I. As a left-handed batsman, Asalanka marked his international debut for Sri Lanka in June 2021. Renowned for his powerful and effective batting, he primarily occupies the No. 5 position in the lineup. He has been appointed as the captain of the Sri Lanka cricket team after Dasun Shanaka stepped down. In 2013, he opened the batting and was the top scorer in both innings, notching 92 and 31 runs in a three-day match against an English under-17 team at Loughborough. He continued his stellar performance by opening for his school, Richmond College, Galle, during the 2014–15 season, guiding them to the final of the schools’ twenty-20 competition.
In 2014–15, he captained the national under-19 team against Australia and Bangladesh, emerging as Sri Lanka’s top run-scorer and the second-highest wicket-taker in a five-match limited-overs series against Bangladesh under-19, displaying consistent excellence. His exceptional performance was most notable in Sri Lanka’s victory in the first match, with figures of 4 for 36 and a score of 63.
