Colin Niel Ackermann, born on April 4, 1991, in George, Cape Province, South Africa, is a cricketer who holds dual Dutch-South African citizenship. Currently, he plays for Durham County Cricket Club in England and is a valuable member of the Netherlands national cricket team. Ackermann’s international journey began when he made his debut for the Netherlands in October 2019.
He notably served as the Leicestershire club captain from 2020 to 2022. Ackermann’s early education took place at Outeniqua Primary School in George, followed by Grey High School in Port Elizabeth. He held the position of vice-captain for South Africa during the 2010 Under-19 Cricket World Cup.
In June 2019, Ackermann became eligible to represent the Netherlands cricket team, which led to his participation in the 2019 ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier tournament in the United Arab Emirates. He continued to be a valuable asset, earning a spot in the Dutch squads for the 2019–20 Oman Pentangular Series and the 2019 ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier tournament. Ackermann made his Twenty20 International (T20I) debut for the Netherlands against Ireland on October 5, 2019.
His dedication to Dutch cricket continued, and in September 2021, Ackermann was named as the vice-captain of the Dutch squad for the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. In November 2021, he was selected for the Dutch One Day International (ODI) squad for their series against South Africa, marking his ODI debut on November 26, 2021, while representing the Netherlands against South Africa.
