CWC 2023: Bad news for NZ Cricket fans; Kane Williamson set to miss the entire tournament

Gujarat's star player Kane Williamson was badly injured while trying to stop a boundary.

The opening match of IPL 2023 was played between Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings. In this match, Gujarat’s star player Kane Williamson was badly injured while trying to stop a boundary. After this injury, Williamson was taken off the field on a support. He could not even stand by himself. His right knee was injured. After the scan, it was said to be an ACL injury. Due to this, he was also ruled out of the entire season of IPL. But now the information that is coming out is not good news for the cricket fans of New Zealand. The latest report states that Kane Williamson may also be ruled out of the ODI World Cup to be held in India this year.

Kane Williamson is the captain of the New Zealand white ball team. Recently, he also returned to form by performing brilliantly in the Test series against Sri Lanka. But it was unfortunate for him to get injured like this in the very first match of IPL. The injury of the star player of Gujarat Titans is so serious that he will have to undergo surgery on his knee. This is the reason that he may be out of the ODI World Cup to be held in India in October-November this year.

According to the report of ESPN Cricinfo, he has an ACL injury in his right knee. He has returned to his country and his injury is so serious that it will require surgery in the next three weeks after the swelling subsides.

Significantly, in the absence of Kane Williamson, Tom Latham has often been seen taking charge of the New Zealand team. But the absence of Kane Williamson as captain and batsman can prove to be a big blow for the Kiwi team in the World Cup. He has an average of 47.83 in ODI cricket. He has also scored 13 centuries in 161 matches.
