With KL Rahul scoring just 57 runs in total of 4 innings and his poor leadership have raise sever questions over his place in Indian Cricket team. Dinesh Karthik, former Indian wicket-keeper feels that KL Rahul is a failure in test cricket.
As India won the test series against Bangladesh because of Ravichandran Ashwin and Shreyas Iyer’s heroics, questions were raised about Rahul’s ability to not only bat but also to captain the Indian Cricket team. Speaking of LSG Captain KL Rahul’s batting form, Karthik stated that while he would give him a couple of matches, things needed to change quickly, or else someone like Shubman Gill could take his place in test match cricket as a full-time opener.
“I would give KL those couple of Test matches, but if things don’t go KL Rahul’s way… The one thing that does go against him is the fact that he has played over 40 Tests and his average is just mid-30s. That is not acceptable for an opener. That is one of the lowest among Indian players for sure, who have played 35 Test matches,” Dinesh Karthik said.
India’s next Test series will be a home series against Australia beginning February 9th in Nagpur. Karthik believes that if Rahul fails to score big daddy hundreds in the tournament, he may be forced to make way for young Shumban Gill in the India XI.
Dinesh Karthik further added: “That is something that he needs to work on. That will be on his mind. If he wants to cement his place in the Test team, he needs to get a couple of hundreds against Australia. Otherwise, you can see a change, with Shubman Gill doing so well,”
With Rohit Sharma coming back from injury for India vs Australia test series, management would want KL Rahul to score big otherwise Shubman Gill is always a better choice.
