Indian cricket is touching new heights every day. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) gave a prize money of INR 125 crore to Team India, which won the 2024 T20 World Cup. Currently, BCCI is the richest cricket board in the world. However, it was not always like this. When Team India, captained by Kapil Dev, won the 1983 ODI World Cup, the board did not have the money to give prize money to the team, due to which legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar did a show to raise funds. So let us know how much difference there is between the prize money then and now.

The difference in the prize money given by BCCI to Team India in the 1983 World Cup and the 2024 T20 World Cup cannot be expressed in words, but it can definitely be said that there is a huge difference between the two. In 1983, funds were raised for Team India from Lata Mangeshkar’s concert, after which all the players were given INR 1 lakh each. A total prize money of INR 125 crore has been announced for the 2024 T20 World Cup winners. Simply put, the amount of prize money that the entire team got in 1983, in 2024, only the players will get many times more than that.

How much prize money did Team India get in the 2007 T20 World Cup?

The Men in Blue won the T20 World Cup title for the first time in 2007. This was the first edition of the tournament. After this victory, the BCCI announced a prize money of INR 10 crore for the victorious Team India. Apart from this, Yuvraj Singh was given INR 1 crore separately.
