During a recent interview, Gautam Gambhir commented on how Zaheer Khan set the tone for the World Cup final match, saying that people often remember Dhoni’s winning six or his own 97 runs. In addition, he praised Zaheer Khan’s performance at the 2011 World Cup.
In the match, Sri Lanka scored 274/6 in 50 overs, with Mahela Jayawardene scoring 103 not out, while India’s Zaheer Khan and Yuvraj Singh took two wickets each.
Despite losing Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar early on in their chase for 277 runs, India was able to secure their second World Cup trophy in 28 years thanks to the efforts of Gambhir (97), MS Dhoni (91 not out), Virat Kohli (35), and Yuvaraj Singh (21 not out).
Dhoni was named Man of the Match, and Yuvraj Singh was named Player of the Tournament.
Though Dhoni’s six-to-finish game is well-remembered by fans, Gambhir credits Khan’s performance as setting the tone for India’s victory.
