Team India star batsman and Kolkata Knight Riders captain Shreyas Iyer has successfully undergone back surgery in the UK. Now due to recovery, Iyer will be forced to miss the entire IPL 2023 as well as the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia at the Oval in London in June.

Iyer underwent back surgery on Tuesday in London. He is likely to miss three months of practice before returning and ideally will be fully recovered by the ODI World Cup 2023 in India. Iyer participated in the first two days of the most recent Test match in Ahmedabad against Australia before being sidelined.

Apart from Shreyas Iyer, Jasprit Bumrah is also recovering from a back injury. Bumrah recently underwent a surgery, and will miss the World Test Championship final 2023 in June. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is optimistic that Jasprit Bumrah will be totally fit for ODI WC 2023.

Bumrah last played for India in October 2022. The pacer has since missed Asia Cup 2022, T20 World Cup 2022, Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023, and now the entire IPL 2023.

From June 7 to June 11, 2023, the Oval in London will host the second WTC Final between Australia and India. Australia’s 17-person squad, led by Pat Cummins, has been announced.

The Indian team has not yet been revealed. The WTC Final is referred to as the most important competition for Test-playing countries.
