KL Rahul was announced as one of the wicketkeeper batters alongside Srikar Bharat in India’s squad for the World Test Championship Final. The WTC Final is going to be played at The Oval in London from 7th June 2023. Unfortunately for India, Rahul has suffered a serious hamstring injury which has ruled him out of the remainder of IPL and WTC Final.
With Shreyas Iyer also ruled out of the WTC Final 2023, Team India is running out of options when it comes to a reliable batter at the number five or sixth position in Test team. Ajinkya Rahane is likely to bat at five. However, the number six batter in the WTC Final is yet to be decided.
Hardik Pandya has not played a Test for India in quite a long time. He recently said that it won’t be right for him to directly get into the Test team when many players are working very hard in the domestic tournaments.

Even then the Indian team management is thinking of bringing Hardik Pandya in the Indian squad for the WTC Final as the game is scheduled to be played in England where a pace bowling all-rounder like Hardik Pandya would be vital for the win. Australia has named both Mitchell Marsh and Cameron Green in their squad.
It remains to be seen whether Hardik Pandya agrees to play only Test match for the sake of India’s chances in the WTC Final. Also, there are rumours that Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav are also in contention to replace KL Rahul in the WTC Final squad of India.
