The highly anticipated IPL 2024 mini-auction, scheduled for December 19 in Dubai, has sparked speculation about a significant trade between two IPL franchises as the player retention and release deadline of November 26 approaches. Negotiations are ongoing, with talks of a potential trade involving the captain of one IPL team, the details of which are expected to be disclosed within the next two days. Both franchises involved have yet to officially comment on the rumored trade.
Amidst these developments, defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are preparing to release three additional players, entering the auction with approximately INR 30 crore. Alongside the confirmed release of Ben Stokes (INR 16.25), CSK will have extra funds following the retirement of veteran Ambati Rayudu (INR 6.75) from the IPL last season. CSK will also release South Africa’s Dwaine Pretorius, Sisanda Magala, and New Zealand’s Kyle Jamieson.

Potential releases from other teams include players like Harry Brook, Sam Curran, Tim Southee, Lockie Ferguson, and Shardul Thakur. The Delhi Capitals are reportedly poised for a significant trade, although specific player names have not been disclosed. Meanwhile, there are speculations about the potential release of veteran Andre Russell from the Kolkata Knight Riders, although this move seems unlikely.
Additionally, top performers from the recently concluded ODI World Cup, including Australia’s Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Travis Head, Rachin Ravindra, and Daryl Mitchell, will be available in the December auction. The general anticipation is that up to 50 players will be bought in the upcoming mini-auction. The 2024 IPL is scheduled to commence in mid-March, following the conclusion of the five-match Test series between India and England on March 11.
