Here are the Best New Drills to Improve Your Batting Skills

“Practice makes perfect, After a long time of practising, our work will become natural, skilful, swift and steady.” – Bruce Lee

A batter continuously needs to evolve in the ever-changing cricketing sphere. The bowlers are dramatically bringing varieties to their deliveries in the game, so to counter such skilled bowling, batters must drill the basics of batting techniques into their play.

International cricketers have access to all the facilities and equipment to practice and perfect the techniques in nets, but aspiring cricketers all over the globe encounter countless shortcomings and deficiencies during practices. Cricreads aims to remove those difficulties by bringing you a new set of best batting drills targeted at modern-day bowling variations.

Here are the best new batting drills:

Multiple Location Batting Drill for Multi-Faceted Play

A batter can only be successful in the long-term if his basics on all aspects of cricketing shots are up-to-date and crystal clear.

Requirements:

The batter is given three-pitch locations to practice the batting: middle, inside and away. The batter may take help from a coach, friend or bowling machine to hit the same ball in three different areas. He may want to mark the position where he wants to hit the ball.

Explanation:

While playing away, the batter is supposed to create some room and either cut or loft it through the offside. If the batter is playing inside the bowling line, he may want to either flick the bowl on the leg side or glance it towards the fine leg by moving into the line of the ball. And if the batter wants to play in the middle, he must show the full of the bat by moving into the line of the bowl.

Isolation Batting Drill for Hand-Eye Coordination

Hand-Eye coordination is significant for learning the swing and movement of bowling while playing cricket.

Requirements:

Not all cricketers are born with great hand to eye coordination and require a lot of practice to adapt this skill into their game. Isolation batting drill requires only a bat and bowl to practice and is highly efficient in improving hand-eye coordination.

Explanation:

Steven Smith, in the pandemic, used this drill to keep his hand-eye coordination up to the mark. Watch Smith explain how this drill works in the video below:

T20 Batting Drill for Aggressive Batting

It is an advanced drill aiming at producing explosive batters and allowing freedom of expression to the batters for the high-octane cricketing format of the game.

Requirements:

The drill requires essential batting gear with a bowling machine and a coach to point out the flaws in stroke-play.

Explanation:

Set up the machine for the length you want to practice hitting, or ask your coach or mate to bowl the length to you. Try hitting 10 balls on a particular length and assess whether you were successful in your attempt or not. Keep practising until the desired result is produced.

The batter can also vary the speed for the same length to pounce upon different bowling tendencies. Once you are satisfied with your hitting ability on the particular length you can adjust the machine again for a different one. Regularly keeping this up will help you counter most of the bowling variations.
