Amid the turmoil surrounding the Asia Cup, the ICC is seeking a guarantee from Pakistan to participate in the ODI World Cup 2023, according to a report. Pakistan was chosen to host the Asia Cup, but India declined to take part due to security concerns.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) proposed a hybrid model with matches in both Pakistan and the UAE, but the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) rejected it. There have been calls for India to boycott the ODI World Cup if they do not attend the Asia Cup in Pakistan.

To resolve the situation, ICC officials, including Chairman Greg Barclay and CEO Geoff Allardice, traveled to Lahore to seek assurances from the PCB. The ICC is concerned that if the hybrid model is approved for the Asia Cup, the PCB will request it for the World Cup as well.
Both the ICC and the BCCI want Pakistan to play matches in India in order for the Indo-Pakistan series and the tournament to be successful. Officials from the ICC are working to bridge the gap between the PCB and the BCCI and to resolve issues concerning the Asia Cup and World Cup.
