The ICC ODI World Cup 2023 is set to take place from 5th October to 19th November. The Indian team will be participating in all 9 matches scheduled for the tournament across different venues. Their first match will be against Australia on 8th October. However, the team is currently facing challenges in finding the right combinations.
KL Rahul is currently facing injury concerns, while Suryakumar Yadav has been struggling in the ODIs. The search for a stable number four position for India still remains unresolved. Despite efforts from the Indian Cricket Team management, they have been unable to find a suitable candidate for this crucial role in the ODI World Cup 2023. The fitness of Shreyas Iyer will play a decisive role, and he is expected to test his fitness during the Asia Cup 2023, which takes place just before the World Cup.
On a positive note, Jasprit Bumrah has recovered from his back injury and has been named captain for Ireland T20I Series. Hardik Pandya, who is usually the primary T20I captain, has been given some rest. It is expected that Bumrah will be fully fit and ready for the upcoming World Cup in 2023. Both Shreyas Iyer and Jasprit Bumrah are anticipated to make significant contributions to India’s campaign in the ODI World Cup.
