India suffered a significant 209-run defeat in the second ICC World Test Championship final against Australia at the Oval in London on Sunday.
Now, the focus of Rohit Sharma’s team will shift towards preparing for the upcoming ODI World Cup, which is scheduled to be held in India during October and November. With only four months remaining until the prestigious tournament, India has confirmed participation in just six ODI matches, limiting their opportunities to fine-tune their combinations and team composition.
In July and August, India will compete in three ODIs against West Indies, followed by hosting Australia for another three ODIs in September. The Asia Cup, scheduled for September in the ODI format, is yet to have confirmed dates and location.
If India manages to win the Asia Cup, they will have played a total of 12 ODI matches in the lead-up to the World Cup. The team is determined to claim their first World Cup title since their victory in 2011 on home soil, having faced disappointing exits in the semifinals of the 2015 tournament against Australia and the 2019 edition against New Zealand.
