Amidst discussions about Rohit Sharma’s future with Team India following their defeat in the World Test Championship final against Australia, former Australia captain Michael Clarke, who led his team to victory in the 2015 ODI World Cup, has voiced his support for Rohit Sharma and urged the selectors to keep faith in the veteran cricketer.
In an interview with RevSportz, Clarke expressed his backing for Rohit, stating, “I would be keeping faith with Rohit; he is a very good captain, and I appreciate his aggressive approach. He remains positive and has achieved significant success with the Mumbai Indians. Just because India couldn’t win the WTC, it doesn’t mean Rohit is not the right person to lead India.”

Reports suggest that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the selection committee are inclined to continue with Rohit as the captain for the upcoming two-match Test series in the West Indies. They will evaluate the results of these matches and make a decision regarding his future involvement with the national team.

When asked about India’s quest for an ICC title in the past decade and whether Rohit Sharma can guide them to victory in the upcoming ODI World Cup at home, Clarke emphasized that the Indian team, under Rohit’s captaincy, has consistently displayed excellent cricket. He urged Indian fans to maintain their faith in Rohit and support him.
“As I mentioned earlier, I would continue to have faith in Rohit. Since taking over the captaincy, he has led India to a Test series victory against Australia at home and has also excelled as a batsman. Remember his century in the last series? Losing a one-off final doesn’t diminish his abilities as a captain, nor does it make India a weak team. Qualifying for consecutive finals is no easy feat. It indicates that India has consistently performed well over a four-year period. This achievement in Test cricket deserves commendation, and I encourage you to consider this before passing any judgments,” Clarke concluded.
