Former cricketer Gautam Gambhir has become the new head coach of India. Gambhir will join the Indian team from the tour against Sri Lanka. The squad for this tour is going to be announced soon, for which the selection committee meeting is going to be held. After Gautam Gambhir became the coach, the sound of change has started being heard in the Indian team.
Immediately after the T20 World Cup, the Indian team toured Zimbabwe but VVS Laxman played the role of coach in this series. The former Indian team captain Kapil Dev congratulated Gautam Gambhir and the Indian team on becoming the head coach. Kapil told, “If Gautam Gambhir is taking this post (Indian team’s head coach), then I wish him and his team all the best. I hope they will perform better than before. I want to wish the Indian players all the best.”
Many former cricketers have called Gambhir the most suitable candidate for the post of head coach. However, former India captain Kapil Dev refrained from speaking much on Gambhir’s appointment. He wished the Indian team and its players all the best for the future experience. Gambhir has no prior coaching experience unlike his successor Dravid or Ravi Shastri. He worked as a mentor twice with Lucknow Super Giants and once with Kolkata Knight Riders.

Kapil Dev has also been the coach of the Indian cricket team. He was the head coach of the Indian team from September 1999 to September 2000. But his coaching career did not last long. Under his supervision, the Indian team performed poorly against Australia. The team could win only one match out of 14. India also lost 0-2 to South Africa at home, which was their first Test series defeat at home in 12 years.
