IND vs AUS 1st Test: Here’s what debutant KS Bharat said after his inclusion in the playing XI

"I'm really excited to be part of the team and to have the opportunity to make my debut in such a big game. I have worked really hard and I'm looking forward to playing my part in helping the team achieve a positive result.", said Bharat.

The wait is finally over for wicketkeeper-batter, KS Bharat, who received his maiden Test cap for India in the first match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. A long-standing backup to Rishabh Pant, Bharat was given his opportunity due to Pant’s absence following a car accident in December 2022.

KS Bharat and Suryakumar Yadav Made Their Test Debut

Making a cameo appearance as a substitute player in the home series against New Zealand in late 2021, Bharat eventually rose to the role of second-choice option for Team India in the longest format, replacing senior wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha.

Bharat expressed his gratitude for the support he has received over the years, saying “It is not just my dream, so many people have dreamt about me going on and playing for India and doing well.” He acknowledged the hard work and support of his teammates, family, friends, and coaches, crediting them for helping him reach where he is today.

With a wealth of experience on the domestic circuit, having played 79 first-class matches since making his debut in 2012 and featuring in the India A side and the Indian Premier League, Bharat was ready for his big moment.

Reunited with former skipper and head coach, Rahul Dravid, who was in charge of the U-19 and India A teams, Bharat found a supportive environment. Dravid encouraged Bharat to be himself and to challenge himself, never trying to change the player he is.

In his debut match, Bharat was called upon for an LBW decision against Usman Khawaja and his input proved to be a game-changer, as the Australian opener was dismissed for just one run, giving India a strong start in Nagpur.

Bharat’s journey to represent Team India in Tests has been a long one, but he’s made it, and his dream has become a reality for so many.
