The upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy is set to witness a thrilling battle between India’s star batter Virat Kohli and the Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon. As the first match in Nagpur draws closer, fans are eager to see how Kohli will tackle the Aussie bowler who has dismissed him seven times in their past 18 encounters.
But former Indian batting coach, Sanjay Bangar, has uncovered the two weaknesses in Kohli’s game that have caused him trouble against Lyon.
In a recent appearance on Star Sports show the Game Plan, Bangar was asked about Kohli’s strategy for countering the Aussie off-spinner, to which he revealed: “Virat Kohli does not do two things due to which he faces a lot of difficulties against Nathan Lyon. First, he does not believe much in stepping out, he plays more from the crease and then he does not play the sweep as well.”
Second, Bangar believes Virat Kohli will need to change his approach and come down the track more often to neutralize Lyon’s threat. He also stressed the importance of taking a more aggressive approach, saying, “He will have to take a slightly aggressive approach, then only you can threaten him slightly.”
With the first Test just five days away, the stage is set for Kohli to prove Bangar’s insights wrong and conquer his weakness against Lyon.
