India aims to secure the series as they prepare for the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, facing Australia in the 2nd ODI at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore on Sunday, September 24. Under KL Rahul’s captaincy, India clinched a 5-wicket victory against Australia in the first ODI at Mohali’s PCA Stadium on Friday, taking a 1-0 lead in the series.
Mohammed Shami’s five-wicket performance limited Australia to 276 on a flat Mohali pitch. Openers Shubman Gill and Ruturaj Gaikwad notched fifties, sharing a crucial 142-run partnership to put India in a favorable position in the run chase. Gill scored 74 off 63 balls, while Gaikwad contributed 71 off 77 balls. Captain KL Rahul (58 not out off 63 balls) and Suryakumar Yadav (50 off 49 balls) played pivotal roles in guiding India to victory with 8 balls to spare in front of Gill’s home crowd.
India vs Australia 2nd ODI Indore Stadium Pitch Report Today Match
The Holkar Cricket Stadium is renowned for its batsman-friendly wickets, characterized by even bounce and shorter boundaries. A recent ODI at this venue showcased this trait, as India amassed a formidable 385 runs, propelled by centuries from Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma.
In reply, the New Zealand team remained competitive for most of the match but ultimately fell short by a significant margin of 90 runs, despite Devon Conway’s century, as they reached 295 runs in 41.2 overs.
The Indian spin duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal made their mark by taking five wickets collectively. Notably, the match witnessed a total of 32 sixes, with every bowler conceding at least one maximum during their spell.
When it comes to the choice between batting first and setting a substantial total or chasing, there is no significant advantage. The slow bowling options in the team that sets a target can exert pressure on the chasing side. However, the record is balanced in terms of victories, whether defending a total or chasing. Therefore, it will be intriguing to see if India opts to chase once again.
