England has announced their 14-member squad for the first Test against India, scheduled to begin on June 20 at Headingley, Leeds. Ben Stokes will lead the side. The squad includes two fresh faces – fast bowlers Josh Tongue and Sam Cook – while seasoned all-rounder Chris Woakes makes his return. Tongue and Woakes are also part of the England Lions team set to play an unofficial match against India A from June 6. Jamie Overton also makes a comeback to the Test side.

Ben Stokes (captain), Shoaib Bashir, Jacob Bethell, Harry Brook, Brydon Carse, Sam Cook, Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Jamie Overton, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Jamie Smith, Josh Tongue, Chris Woakes.
Both Tongue and Cook recently featured in the four-day Test match against Zimbabwe. While Tongue is a right-arm medium pacer, Cook is a right-arm fast bowler. Jamie Overton, known for his all-round skills, will also be seen in action. England will miss the services of Gus Atkinson, who has been ruled out of the first Test due to injury. Overton last played Test cricket in 2022. The 31-year-old recently injured his finger in an ODI against West Indies but is under medical supervision and is expected to recover in time.
Fast bowler Brydon Carse is expected to play a key role in the bowling attack. All-rounder Jacob Bethell also makes a return to the squad, having last played in December.
