Indian cricket team’s middle-order batter, Shreyas Iyer, has been ruled out of the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand due to a back injury. The injury was sustained during a training session and was diagnosed by the Indian team’s medical staff.
Shreyas Iyer, who has been in excellent form for India in recent times, was set to play a crucial role in the middle order for the team. He has been a consistent performer for India in the limited-overs format and his absence will be a big blow to the team.
The Indian team management has said that Iyer will undergo further assessment and rehabilitation under the supervision of the BCCI medical team. The team has announced Rajat Patidar as a replacement for Iyer in the squad.
Iyer, who made his debut for India in 2017, has been a regular in the Indian middle order since 2019. He has played 42 ODI matches for India, scoring 1631 runs at an average of 46.60. He has also smashed two ODI hundreds and fourteen ODI fifties.
The ODI series against New Zealand, which will be played in India, is set to begin on January 18. The Indian team, led by Rohit Sharma, will be looking to continue their winning momentum from the recent series against Sri Lanka.
Iyer’s injury will be a major concern for the Indian team as they prepare for the upcoming ODI World Cup in India. Hopefully, the young batter will recover quickly so that he can be back in action soon.
