Before the ODI World Cup 2023, Team India, led by Rohit Sharma, secured a convincing 10-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup, marking their 8th title in the tournament. This win has rejuvenated India’s presence in multi-team tournaments, an area where they have faced challenges in recent years. Former Indian captain Kapil Dev, who led India to their first World Cup victory in 1983, expressed his delight over India’s performance and conveyed that the team is prepared for the upcoming World Cup.

Kapil Dev mentioned that while as a cricketer, one would prefer to see closer games, as a player, the goal is to secure a quick win. He humorously stated, “What a fantastic game of cricket. As a cricketer, I would like to see a much closer game, but as a player, I feel 30 pe out karo, aake jeeto” (Take 30 wickets and win quickly).

Regarding the impending ODI World Cup in 2023, Kapil Dev emphasized the importance of finishing in the top 4 but refrained from declaring India as outright favorites at this stage. He noted that the Indian team seems prepared for the championship and stressed the need for hard work. Kapil Dev expressed confidence in his team while acknowledging that he doesn’t possess detailed information about other teams’ preparations.

As the Asia Cup celebrations conclude, Team India will shift their focus to rigorous preparations for the ODI World Cup in 2023. While the squad has been announced, Rohit Sharma, the captain, hinted at the possibility of further changes if required. He mentioned the consideration of spinner-all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin, who is in the mix, and indicated ongoing discussions with him. With the finalization deadline for the ODI World Cup squad set for September 28, adjustments remain a possibility.

India’s triumphant Asia Cup victory has boosted their confidence ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023, with Kapil Dev expressing optimism and Rohit Sharma indicating a willingness to make squad changes if needed before the final squad announcement.
