India dominated Zimbabwe and put on a clinical performance with both bat and ball to defeat the latter with a huge margin of 71 runs. With this win, India has topped Group 2 to set up a clash against England in the semi-final. India was too much for the Zimbabwe team to handle. The latter never looked to be stealing a chance in the game to make a comeback.
India won the toss and opted to bat first at MCG. They lost Rohit Sharma early, but it only brought Virat Kohli to the field, who formed a great partnership with KL Rahul. Kohli went on to contribute 26 runs, while KL Rahul scored 51 to put his team into a comfortable position. After that, it was all Suryakumar Yadav’s show. He destroyed the Zimbabwe bowler in the end with ease. SKY ended up with an unbeaten score of 61* off 35, and India put on 186-5 on the board.
Zimbabwe needed a miracle to chase the steep target. But India proved that miracles happen only once in thousand years. They gave no chance to Zimbabwe’s batter, and Zimbabwe ultimately ended up folding on a paltry score of 115 runs. R Ashwin took 3 wickets while Shami and Pandya took 2 wickets each.
