KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav are set to lead India’s limited-overs squads during the South Africa tour, as confirmed by the BCCI on November 30. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have opted for a break and won’t be part of the ODI and T20I squads.
The ODI squad for the three-match series sees significant changes, with Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan, and Suryakumar Yadav rested. New additions include Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sai Sudharsan, Rajat Patidar, Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, and Sanju Samson. In the bowling department, Arshdeep Singh, Mukesh Kumar, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Deepak Chahar have been included, while Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Mohammed Shami are rested.
In the Test squad, KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan will serve as designated wicketkeepers. KS Bharat has been named captain of the India A squads for the South Africa tour. Shreyas Iyer’s return to full fitness and Ruturaj Gaikwad’s consistent performance led to the exclusion of Ajinkya Rahane from the Test squad, and Cheteshwar Pujara was not considered. Shami’s availability for the Tests will depend on his fitness.
Ravindra Jadeja returns to the T20I setup as vice-captain, while Shubman Gill, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammad Siraj, and Deepak Chahar find a place in the squad. The tour begins on December 10 with the T20I series, followed by three ODIs. The teams will then engage in a Boxing Day Test match starting on December 26, with the tour concluding with the second and final Test on January 3.
